Guide for Authors

Author Guidelines for English-Language Articles Submitted to the Journal of Metaphysical Investigations

Dear Author,

Please prepare your manuscript as a single Microsoft Word document in accordance with the following guidelines. Once your manuscript is ready, upload it to the journal’s website and send a separate copy directly to the Editor-in-Chief.

1. Manuscript Length and Formatting

  1. Length: The manuscript should be approximately 8,000 words. If it exceeds this length, please remove any unnecessary material.
  2. Font and Size: The main text should be typed in Times New Roman, 12-point font.
  3. Author Information: Each author’s academic rank or position and email address must be provided in a footnote. For manuscripts with more than one author, the corresponding author must be clearly identified.
  4. In-Text Citations: All English-language in-text citations must be formatted in Times New Roman, 12-point font. Please follow these examples:
    • (Popper, 2026, p. 78)
    • (Popper, 2025, vol. 6, p. 90)
  5. Footnotes: Please avoid unnecessary explanatory footnotes. Where an explanation is essential, keep it as brief as possible.
  6. Works by Multiple Authors and Same-Year Publications: For works with multiple authors, include the surnames of all authors in the in-text citation, separating them with semicolons. The full bibliographic details of each work must also be provided in the reference list. If multiple works by the same author were published in the same year, distinguish them in the reference list using letters (a, b, c, and so on).

2. References and Bibliography

  1. Bibliographic Format: The reference list at the end of the article should follow this format:

Author’s surname, author’s first name (year of publication), title of the work, translator, volume number, edition number, place of publication, publisher.

Example:

-          Motahhari, Morteza (2001), Fifteen Discourses, Tehran: Sadra Publications.

  1. Electronic Sources: Whenever possible, cite the printed edition of a work rather than its electronic version.
  2. Book Titles: Book titles should preferably be italicized throughout the manuscript. Please do not enclose book titles in parentheses.
  3. Headings and Subheadings: All headings and subheadings within the article must be numbered. Please consult articles in the journal’s most recently published issue for examples.
  4. Complete References and DOIs: Every source cited in the text must be listed in full in the reference list at the end of the manuscript. Include the DOI for each source whenever available.
  5. Repeated Authors in the Reference List: If you cite several works by the same author, do not replace the author’s name with a dash or a repeated-name line. Write the author’s full name for each entry. You may consult an article published on the journal’s website as a model for formatting your manuscript.

3. Recommended Preparation

Please download and review the most recently published English-language articles in Metaphysical Investigations. Use these articles as models when preparing and formatting your manuscript.

Important: Failure to comply with these guidelines may result in the manuscript being excluded from the publication process.

Sincerely,

Qodratullah Qorbani
