Abstract:
Perhaps one of the most frequent terms in Hegel's philosophy is the word contradiction; but it seems that this word has not been explained as precisely as it is famous. What is emphasized in this article as a new issue is that in Hegel's philosophy, "contradiction" should be considered as a contradiction and independent of the parties to the contradiction. That is, contradiction is not reduced to opposites and is not their parasite, but is itself a relation that has ontological authenticity. In this sense, the "relation of contradiction" is not only not dependent on the parties to the contradiction (opposites) but also plays an ontological and positive role. We will also point out that contradiction is not only related to the perceptual structure of the subject but also to reality, and in other words, contradiction is an undeniable reality that is the main nature of existence. In this regard, by interpreting and analyzing the writings of Hegel and some of his interpreters, we will conclude that the relation of contradiction is the main driving force of his philosophy. Some of Hegel's interpreters have considered contradiction to be a secondary and superficial issue, but by examining the opinions of other interpreters and Hegel's own text, we will show that this interpretation is inadequate because contradiction is related to the whole, and the whole is the whole of truth. The absolute as a whole cannot be a pure field, but rather, in order to develop itself and move in history, it must itself be contradictory, and this requires that we go beyond the common interpretations of the role of the relation of contradiction in Hegel's philosophy. Hegel's approach to the problem of contradiction is rooted in the way his predecessors dealt with the problem of subject and object and the relation between the two, which we will briefly examine to get to the main issue, namely the relation of contradiction and Hegel's approach to it.
